Conflict(ed)

Periodically I come across someone I know whose social media content does not align with my ideals and viewpoints. I find this to be a moment of being conflicted.

Immediately I want to turn away, un-friend, unfollow – not deal with it. This year in particular has shown so much divisiveness that I’m over it. So this is my initial response.

On the other hand I believe that no matter what your stance is on anything we should be able to have a discussion if we disagree. I know that sounds like a cliche thing to say but I really believe it because that is the only way we can resolve anything.

My work as a health coach requires me to really listen to people and so I gravitate towards that but there are so many people that don’t want to have a discussion. They would rather says their side of it and not take your side into consideration.

That is why I can be so conflicted by this. I will talk with anyone who is open to even agreeing to disagree as long as there is an honest discussion that takes place. I’m just starting to feel less optimistic that those people are out there.
