I’m pretty good at keeping my self on a fairly consistent schedule. Monday through Friday I need to be up at 5:00 a.m. for work so I try to be in bed by 10:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. the latest. Even if I’m not tired I will go to bed and read until I find myself reading the same paragraphs over and over either through lack of comprehension or my eyes not being able to focus.
I know when I break that routine and stAy up past my bedtime I’m just not going to feel great the next day. I used to do it quite frequently and it wasn’t that much of an issue. One could argue that youth was a determining factor and as I’ve gotten older I just can’t rebound as quickly but I disagree. I think the problem is just being out of practice. I’m so used to my routine now that it just throws me off. Even on the weekends I still prefer to be in bed around the same time even though I can sleep in a little bit later (dogs permitting – they like their routines too).
Knowing this doesn’t change the fact that I will still periodically stay up later than I should on a work night and not feel my best the next day. I mean I am an adult after all – if I want to finish watching a movie I should be allowed to. Just now there is a price that goes along with it.
