One of my dogs needed to go out this morning at 4:00 a.m. which is usually a time of night that I prefer to be sleeping but being that she has no opposable thumbs to open the door herself I was required to take her.
As I’m standing on the deck waiting for her I look up at the night sky which is something I’ve enjoyed since I was a kid and noticed a planet brightly lit just to the left of the moon. Not knowing exactly what I was looking at I grabbed my iPad and opened the Sky Guide app and voila – it was Mars.
Sky Guide is a fantastic app that I most definitely recommend if you enjoy looking at the stars and periodically want to know which ones you’re looking at. It’ll also tell you all about what you’re seeing and give notification for astronomical events.
The only downside is it may only be available for iOS and not Android.
